Settings schema is not installed

When trying to start an application you see an error such as:

(peek:18372): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 10:14:30.666: Settings schema 'com.uploadedlobster.peek' is not installed
Trace/breakpoint trap peek

Run the following command in a root terminal:

glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas

Cannot open file delete

Seen during the early booting phase in some installations.

We already know that the message is due to a problem in plymouth-theme-pclinuxos-1.1.10-2pclos2011 (and possibly other plymouth themes). We also know that it is completely harmless which is why we are not devoting much time to tracking it down more precisely.

Update-Notifier : Do NOT update

Update-Notifier may show the following message - An error occurred verifying upgrade; this may be caused by held packages. Do NOT update! Check synaptic or try again later.

If update-notifier is giving you the "do not update" message you need to look at the file ~/.update-notifier/apt/apt-get.log to find the reason for the message.
